Bella’s heart was pounding so loudly she was sure Marco could hear it as they tiptoed back into the house through the kitchen door. The warmth inside hit her like a wave, contrasting sharply with the frigid air still clinging to their skin. She could feel Marco’s presence right behind her, his breath hot against the back of her neck, sending shivers down her spine that had nothing to do with the cold.
“We need to be quiet,” Bella whispered, glancing over her shoulder at him. His dark eyes were smoldering, and she could see the hunger in them, barely restrained. He nodded, but the way his jaw tightened told her he wasn’t interested in waiting much longer.
